Back to School Health Guide – Fraser Health

As summer winds down, it’s time to gear up for a healthy back-to-school season. Set the stage for a smooth transition back to school. Here are some practical tips to get you started.

Prioritize Sleep

Ensuring your child gets enough sleep is an important part of a healthy back-to-school routine. Quality sleep helps with concentration, mood and overall well-being. Aim for nine to 11 hours of quality sleep per night.

Eat Well

Support your child’s learning and development with scheduled meals and snacks. Breakfast kick starts their morning, while snacks and lunches nourish them throughout the day. Pack a water bottle to help them stay hydrated.

Boost Immunity

As with any public environment, school exposes children to various germs. Ensuring they are up-to-date on their vaccinations helps protect them and others. Specific immunizations are recommended for children prior to entering kindergarten as well as in grades six and nine. Help your child avoid the spread of illness by encouraging them to wash their hands regularly, teaching them to cover their coughs and sneezes and keeping them home when sick.

Keep Active

Adding physical activity to your child’s routine sets them up for success. Activities like walking or biking to school, playing sports, dancing, swimming or helping around the house are great ways for your child to stay active. Set limits on screen time and promote outdoor play as much as possible for overall well-being.

Make Time for Talking and Connection

Going back to school can be a cause of anxiety or stress for children. Make it a point to encourage open communication and support your child to talk about their feelings and help them feel heard and understood. Integrate downtime into their routine where they can relax or focus on a special interest or hobby.

Meet the Teacher

On Wednesday, September 25, we will be hosting a Meet the Teacher event from 5:30-6:30. Come in and meet your child’s teacher, see the class, and have a look at the new Annex (even if your child doesn’t have class there yet). There will also be food truck dinner at the front of the school thanks to the PAC! We look forward to seeing you there.

Cross Country is coming

Our Grade 4-5 Cross Country season is coming. Racers run a ~2.3 km course at Aldergrove Bowl, vying to qualify for the Championship Race in mid-October. Interested students should come to the gym at 11:30 on Monday, as our first race would be Wednesday, September 25.

Catchment Boundary Changes REMSS Family of Schools (Elementary)

The District is excited to be opening a new elementary school in the Northeast Latimer area of Langley. Ahead of September 2025, the District is communicating the catchment boundary change process which could impact children attending elementary schools in the R.E. However, the District welcomes all families in the Willoughby Slope region to attend an info session, ask questions, and provide feedback.

Attend this info session to learn more about the proposed changes, ask questions, and provide feedback.

Location: RICHARD BULPITT ELEMENTARY

Date: SEPTEMBER 23, 2024

Time: 7:00PM

Class Parent Representative

This year we are asking parents to take on the role of class parent to ease communication between the PAC and teachers. The class parents will be able to assist teachers in matters with Fun Lunch, fundraising, and other PAC related activities. It’s a great way for you to get involved in your child’s classroom. You’ll be updated with new information directly from the PAC. It requires minimal time commitment on your part and most of the role can be done through email.
Divisions 1,3, 20 and 27 already have class parents. Thank you to those of you who have stepped up!
We would love to have these roles filled by the beginning of October.
If you are interested or have any questions please email bulpittpac@outlook.com with your name, division number, and your interest in being a class parent. Please let your child’s teacher know that you’ll be taking on this role too!

Don’t forget about Spirit Wear Orders!

For Grade 5 students, grad hoodie size selection will be done through School Cash Online. You will get an email when it is set up. Please make sure that you submit your orders by October 15th.

Community Values Coupon Books will come home Friday, Sept 20th

Money raised from this fundraiser goes towards our Body Science and Art Start programs!

Something to read

  • I’m hanging this one up at home…

  • I’ve shared this every year, and I understand that the FB chatter suggests I share it again. This is an article from a Langley principal, Mr. Wejr. Will my child be OK in a split class?
  • It seems to be getting awfully fall-like out there. I looked up ‘fall scenery in Vancouver’ and the first thing I found was an article by a former student of mine. I’ll have to talk to her about places further out of town, too. Best Places to See Fall Colours in Vancouver. Seems to me that Sendal Gardens, Derby Reach and Campbell Valley are probably worth a look too.
