Information
Summer Session 2022
It’s that time of year when the staff in Langley start planning the Summer Session offerings so many kids enjoy and benefit from. It’s sure not the ‘you failed’ Summer School from when I was a kid! In place of a brochure this year, all Summer Session information will be communicated here. Things are still in the planning phase, but we wanted to put this on your radar. Watch future TWARBE issues for details as they come available.
Community Bulletin Board
Did you know that the school district maintains a community bulletin board online, where you can find info about upcoming community events (or where your organization might advertise)? One upcoming event that some of our students would really enjoy is the DW Poppy Car Show on May 1. I know some of our kids are really keen on cars, and would probably have fun attending. I remain in awe of the girl who confidently and correctly told me ‘That’s a Subaru’ just by sound.

Earth Day
Earth Day is coming next Friday. We’d love to see all our Bulldogs arrive on foot (or otherwise self-propelled) that day, rather than driving.

Happy Vaisakhi
This Thursday, April 14, is Vaisakhi (or Baisakhi), the Sikh harvest festival and New Year celebration. While the celebration is marked throughout south Asia, it has special significance for people of the Sikh faith, as it also marks the date in 1699 when Guru Gobind Singh asked the Sikhs to adorn themselves with the Sikh articles of faith (source worldsikh.org). Vaisakhi is also celebrated by Hindus around the world as it marks the beginning of the solar new year (source: TimesofIndia.com). We wish all Bulldogs who observe the day prosperity, joy and happiness this Vaisakhi

Community Easter Egg Hunt!
Our friends at North Langley Community Church have asked us to share with you that everyone is welcome on Sunday, April 17th, 11.30am at Richard Bulpitt Elementary School for a fun community event for all ages this Easter!
There’ll be an egg hunt, lots of chocolate, cinnamon buns, and other great treats.

For the parents of anxious/worried kids…

Daily Health Check and What to Do When Sick
A friendly reminder to our students and visitors to complete a daily health check prior to boarding a bus or entering a school or District site such as the School Board Office. To help support families in doing their part to keep everyone safe, please review the Daily Health Check and What to Do When Sick guide here. This contains a list of COVID-19 symptoms and guidance on what to do if you become ill. As always, the District is encouraging everyone to continue practice proper handwashing and staying home when sick.

The Spring Fling is coming up on Friday, June 3! Alternative Fundraiser
Due to the unprecedented nature of COVID-19 we have been limited in the ability to hold regular events to fundraise for our staff and students. This year the PAC would like to offer parents a new way to donate directly to the PAC, for those who do not wish to purchase goods or have limited time to participate in events.
A direct donation of $40 would be the equivalent to your child raising $275 through fundraising activities (Purdy’s, Neufelds, etc.). Funds raised go towards supporting teachers in their classrooms, busses for field trips, programs such as Dance Pl3y, Saleema Noon and more!
If you wish to make a direct donation, please send an e-transfer to bulpittpac@outlook.com with direct donation in the Message line. Please note, at this time we are unable to provide tax receipts.
Thank you to those who have contributed!
Next General Meeting
Don’t forget – our next meeting will be Monday, May 9 at 7pm via Zoom. – all parents are welcome to attend! Our AGM and PAC Elections will be held on Monday, June 6 at 7pm in the Library. If you are interested in becoming a member of our PAC, please email to bulpittpac@outlook.com.

Something to read (or watch)

Managing Screen Time.
We’re noticing more and more students with smartphones at school lately. They’re a valuable tool, but they can also cause plenty of strife around boundaries and usage for families. Coincidentally, Saleema Noon sent a link to this resource out to her mailing list this morning. Click the image below to see the whole thing. You might also be interested in her free ‘Smart Things to Say‘ downloadables that cover a wide range of topics important to kids and parents. Based on what I hear from the older kids at the school, the TikTok one might be of interest to quite a few parents.

Baffled by new-school math? The RBE Math Zone has information that might help you help your kids with math, or at least understand what some of their work is all about.
