Information

Mid-Autumn Festival

This weekend marked Chuseok 추석 (Korea), Moon Festival 中秋節 / 中秋节 (China), Tsukimi 月見 (Japan) and Tết Trung Thu 節中秋 (Vietnam). In this important festival, families gather to celebrate the full moon of the 8th lunar month. To all of our families who observed these festivals this weekend, we hope you had a wonderful celebration.

Move to classes Monday

On Monday, we will be moving into our permanent classes for the year. We thank you for your patience as we work to navigate over 60 new grade 1-5 students coming into the school, along with numerous requests for pairings of friends, or matching teaching and learning styles. As you can imagine, this is neither a simple nor an easy task, and it is one we spend considerable time on. Teachers and support staff spend hours creating classes that are balanced with respect to gender, friendships, learning needs and personalities, all while staying within the boundaries set by the School Act and the Teachers’ Contract. I am proud of the work our staff have done to create these classes, and I hope you join me in thanking them for this difficult, and often emotional, work.

On Monday morning, please bring your kids to the same place they have been meeting for the last four days. We will do the redistribution to permanent classes sometime before recess. While the students will spend the majority of their day with their new teachers, we will bring them back to the old spot for just one more dismissal, so you can meet them there at 2:30. At that time, your children will be able to tell you their new drop-off and pick-up place for Tuesday. We will have extra staff outside to help navigate that process if you need assistance on Tuesday morning.

School Zone

You’ve probably noticed, but just in case you have not, the 30 km/h school zone around our school is now in effect 24 hours a day on school days. Don’t forget and end up with a ticket!

PAC Update

Welcome back to a new school year! We are excited to host events and activities that we have not been able to deliver over the last few years! Please keep your eyes out here for information about upcoming fundraisers and events! A few of the events we are excited to see return are movie nights, school dances, our Christmas Craft fair, pancake breakfast and of course our annual Spring Fling. Follow our PAC facebook page to stay up-to-date with all the details! https://www.facebook.com/groups/745815738765109

Fall Fundraisers

Keep your eyes out for our Donut Day (Sept 22).  We will be selling Gourmet Donuts for $2 each after school in the courtyard! If you would like to pre-order a dozen, please email us ahead of time by noon on Monday, September 19.

We will also be bringing back Neufelds, and Purdy’s.  New this year we have the Fresh to You produce box.

Alternative Fundraiser

Due to the unprecedented nature of COVID-19 we have been limited in the ability to hold regular events to fundraise for our staff and students. This year the PAC would like to offer parents a new way to donate directly to the PAC, for those who do not wish to purchase goods or have limited time to participate in events.

A direct donation of $40 would be the equivalent to your child raising $275 through fundraising activities (Purdy’s, Neufelds, etc.).   Funds raised go towards supporting teachers in their classrooms, busses for field trips, programs such as Dance Pl3y, Saleema Noon and more!

If you wish to make a direct donation, please send an e-transfer to bulpittpac@outlook.com with direct donation in the Message line.  Please note, at this time we are unable to provide tax receipts.

Next General Meeting

Our first meeting of this school year will be Thursday, September 22 at 7pm in the Library – all parents are welcome to attend!  We will be reviewing our planned activities and approving our budget for this school year.

We are still looking to fill the role of DPAC Rep – if you are interested in this position, please email to bulpittpac@outlook.com.

Quote(s) of the week

Something to Read or Watch…

It’s true that we have some combined (split) classes this year. We’ll have a grade 5-4, a grade 4-3 and a grade 1-K.  Kids and parents sometimes worry about being placed in these classes, but Mr. Wejr (he’s the principal at Shortreed Elementary) wrote an excellent piece on why that worry is unfounded these days. Will My Child Be OK in a Split Class?
