Agenda Covers
Thank you to all the students who participated in our Agenda Cover design contest. We had an astonishing number of entries, and picking winners was very, very difficult work. We want to congratulate our three category winners, Alison, Annie and Ella! Great work! Click on the thumbnails to see the real deal!
Controlled Release Drill
Later in the spring, we will be conducting a controlled release drill to practice our preparedness for significant emergencies where we might have to release students one at a time directly to their guardians or other emergency contacts. To do this, we need to know who is a safe, nearby pickup contact for each child in the school. If you did not fill in the Emergency Release Form sent out early in the year, please do so. Remember that these are the contacts who can pick up your children in the event of a major emergency that might prevent you getting home for a number of days (of course, we hope this doesn’t happen in any of our lifetimes). We will be conducting the drill for one class (TBA), releasing kids to their respective adults so that we can confirm that our careful plans will actually work. Please stay tuned to TWARBE and watch your emails for specific, detailed information coming soon.
Active Beyond the Bell 2023-24
A number of our students participate in the Active Beyond the Bell Program at our school. Click the image below for a full-sized version of their information flyer.
Learning Opportunity – FamilySmart – Youth Mental Health
May 4th from 6–8pm online – Dr. Ross Greene will be speaking about how Collaborative and Proactive Solutions can help us show our kids we care about them. Solving problems together creates connection and allows our children to be a part of finding solutions to what is causing their concerning behaviour. Dr. Greene’s work reminds us that things go better for everyone, when we solve problems together and that kids do well if they can.
Education Week

Quote(s) of the week

Something to Read or Watch…
- When you’re reading with your kids, is it almost always fiction? Shouting pigeons (love those)? Outlandish Robert Munsch adventures (love those too)? What about nonfiction for early readers? Here’s an article that includes a solid list of nonfiction works for preschoolers (or other new readers) to enjoy. And reading nonfiction changes how we read quite dramatically, so it’s good practice!
- Where was Langley 15 million years ago? Not what we know as Langley, of course, but this part of the globe, when continents hadn’t drifted to where we know them to be now. Here’s a neat globe map that lets you see where any point on earth was at various points in time in the past. I thought it was pretty cool!
- May the Fourth be With You! But why? Here’s an article that shares how May 4th became a cultural phenomenon (at least among Star Wars fans).
Things to Remember from the Calendar
