Information
Kwanzaa is coming soon
Kwanzaa is celebrated from December 26 to January 1. It is a festival created by AfricanAmerican activist, Maulana Karenga, in 1966. Kwanzaa celebrations are drawn from harvest festival traditions from parts of West and Southeast Africa. It celebrates the seven principle of Kwanzaa: unity, self-determination, collective work & responsibility, cooperative economics, Purpose, Creativity, and Faith. (source: Wikipedia).
Merry Christmas
Christmas is coming! It is the Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, and is observed on December 25. According to the New Testament, when Joseph and Mary arrived in the city, the inn had no room and so they were offered a stable where the Christ Child was soon born, with angels proclaiming this news to shepherds who then spread the word. (Source: wikipedia).
As well as being a Christian celebration, Christmas brings visits from Santa Claus and gatherings of families to exchange gifts and to share in feasts. While Christmas traditions vary around the world, the core values of generosity and merriment are consistent.
It’s Flu Season
It’s that time of year when we see a rise in illnesses impacting students and staff in our school. We are hearing from families about colds, respiratory illnesses, and stomach bugs circulating in our community. As a reminder to help keep our school community healthy and well, we are sharing this online resource from our community partner Fraser Health. Here you will find information about protecting your child from communicable diseases and managing their illnesses: https://www.fraserhealth.ca/health-topics-a-to-z/school-health/illness-and-immunizations/illness-in-the-classroom
Lost & Found Last Chance
Don’t forget the Lost & Found gets cleaned out and donated this Thursday night. Please pop in and have a look for that lost jacket. We will NOT be donating away any grade 5 hoodies from there, so if that’s missing, come check at the office.

How Do I Join?
Something to read or watch…
- ‘Tis the season! The season to have an over-full schedule, and to bear the weight of expectations – our own and those others have of us. While I’m sure we’re all looking forward to the upcoming holiday, it can also be a time of extra stress and fatigue, and I really hope not to see people returning in January looking more tired than when they leave this Thursday. To that end, I found an article of 4 Mindful Tips to De-Stress This Holiday Season. It contains, perhaps, conventional wisdom, but reading it was a good reminder for me that time off isn’t necessarily really ‘off’ unless I make it so.
- We survived Black Friday and Cyber Monday (I think)! And from the pile of donations in the office after the PAC Giving Tree campaign, and looking at the Food Bank Donations made through the school (~$1000), we understood Giving Tuesday, as well. This video, from Asha Curran, the CEO of Giving Tuesday, tells about the healing power of even small acts of generosity.
