Expansion Update
Work is continuing at a rapid pace on our expansion project. The outside work will continue, and work has begun inside the school after hours as well. We are super excited, of course!
The fenced area will be expanded for a week or so soon, to allow for the new building’s perimeter drainage to be connected to a catch basin by the hockey box. Kids and families will need to learn some new pathways for a bit, but the work should be fairly quick. And we get to learn a bit more about the various things we’ve seen happening since the project began.
Finally, we can expect to see some of the ground floor modules land sometime in June. There will be notice, and it will be pretty cool for the kids (and some grown-ups) to watch.
Sun Sense
Our school is signed up for the Sun Sense Challenge this May. May is also Melanoma Awareness Month! This is the perfect time to have conversations about sun safety and what it means to be sun safe.
Research indicates childhood exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) from the sun is an important factor to the development of skin cancer later in life. In fact, as few as 1 to 2 blistering sunburns during childhood is linked to increased risk of skin cancer.
The #newfamilyrule project shines a light on the dangers of melanoma and empowers families to take action to protect their skin. You can watch the #newfamilyrule melanoma prevention video here!
I am so impressed by how many students I see wearing their sunscreen first thing in the morning! This is a great habit to form, and it’s one I admit I still have to work on. Keep wearing that sunscreen and those sunhats, Bulldogs! You’re doing fantastic!
International Student Program Homestay Families
Embark on a rewarding journey of cultural exchange! The District is seeking homestay families to host International Student Program (ISP) students for the 2024-2025 school year and beyond. There are many benefits including learning a new culture, sharing your family traditions, and developing life-long friendships. Homestay families are provided $1050 to offset costs. Quote(s) of the week

Something to read (or watch)…
Aurora Borealis
I never imagined that the Northern Lights would be so prominent here in the Lower Mainland that they caused traffic jams, but there we go. I hope you had the good luck to see some of the Aurora this weekend. I found some information on what they are and how they occur, and some pretty impressive photos from Canada and around the world.
