Grad Walk

You’ll see a flurry of extra action at the school Monday morning as we welcome our school’s R.E. Mountain Secondary graduates of 2024 back to their elementary school on the day of their convocation. If you’d like to join us in congratulating them,we expect them to parade through the school at about 10:35. They won’t be here long, though, as they get to visit Yorkson Creek Middle School too.

And if you happen to have a graduate of your own at home, congratulations to them and to you!

We wish a fond farewell to our outstanding group of grade 5s this week, as they move on to their next educational adventure at Middle School. We want to thank them for their leaadership and volunteerism at the school this year. They have been most able setter-uppers in the gym, leaders on the playground, monitors in Kindergarten classes and more. 

This group of grade 5s have come so far and through so much since they started school, and they’ve been awesome!

Lost & Found

It’s like a thrift store in here! We have an enormous number of hoodies, jackets, and water bottles in the Lost & Found. Please check sometime before Thursday, to see if any of your child’s clothing is there. All remaining items will be donated on Thursday.

Early Start to Summer Holidays?

If you will be starting summer holidays before the last day of school on June 27, please make sure to gather all your students belonging from the classroom. If you have not yet informed the school of the absence, please email RBEAttendanceVoicemail@sd35.bc.caand your students teacher.

Summer Fun Pass for Children and Youth: Township of Langley (repeat)

Looking for opportunities for your child to get fit and healthy? The Township of Langley’s Summer Fun Pass gives children and youth the opportunity to be active and enjoy unlimited drop-in access to pools, fitness centres, and gymnasiums at TOL recreation facilities throughout the summer. Additionally, children and youth will receive free admission to Family Night and Youth Night events at The Outdoor Experience at Aldergrove Community Centre. The Summer Fun Pass is available to children (4-12 years old) and youth (13-18 years old) for a one-time cost of $25 including tax. Something to read (or watch)…

• At this time of year, I often share some ideas for family fun (with   side of learning) over the summer break. and this year is no different. Some of these might even help with your ‘Summer Homework’ assignments from Mr. Oliver. Watch for those in a week or so.

You don’t have to go all the way to Vancouver to find some great things to do. You only have to go as far as Surrey. Or maybe stay in Langley (though you probably know most of those).

The Surrey Fusion Festival comes up on July 20 & 21, and is well worth the visit for the food, music, and art. It’s like our Multicultural Day on absolute overdrive. And if sports is more your thing, the BC Summer Games are in Maple Ridge from July 17-21.

Mr. Oliver loves bikes, and wants everyone else to love them too, so here are some perfect family bike rides in greater Vancouver. Don’t forget your helmets. Hiking is nice, too, and there are so many options where we live.

• There’s something to be said for boredom, too, though. So on July 18 when the kids say, ‘I’m bored,’ let them be. The Benefits of Boredom tells you why.
• And if reading is their thing, here are some great books for readers aged 6-8 and 9-12. I’ll be reading about Adam Shoalts’ solo canoe journey from the shore of Lake Erie to the Arctic Ocean, myself. If I can’t go on that trip right now, at least I can read about it.
