This Week at RBE – April 24

Information

Driveways & Parking

On Friday, I had three separate parents behind the wheel not notice I had flipped the sign from Stop to Slow because they were visibly looking at their phones in their laps. Please keep our students safe and our traffic moving by leaving your phone alone when behind the wheel.

Young Entrepreneurs

Over the past couple of months, the grade 4 students at Richard Bulpitt Elementary have been participating in PowerPlay Young Entrepreneurs, an engaging hands-on program that empowers students to develop their businesses. These enterprising students have committed to building new skills and are now ready to display and sell their products.  All students from the school will have the opportunity to be inspired, learn about business, have fun, and buy the items the grade 4 students will be selling.  Students will visit the Young Entrepreneurs Show with their classes during regular class time.  Students may want to bring a nominal amount of money for spending. There will be a variety of crafts and lots of creative surprises. Prices generally range from $2 to $6. Mark your calendars! The Show is next Wednesday, April 27th and Thursday, April 28th.   This program ties into the Applied Design, Skills and Technology portion of the curriculum

Summer Session 2022

It’s that time of year when the staff in Langley start planning the Summer Session offerings so many kids enjoy and benefit from. It’s sure not the ‘you failed’ Summer School from when I was a kid! In place of a brochure this year, all Summer Session information will be communicated here. Registration is now open.

The Spring Fling is coming up on Friday, June 3! Alternative Fundraiser

Due to the unprecedented nature of COVID-19 we have been limited in the ability to hold regular events to fundraise for our staff and students. This year the PAC would like to offer parents a new way to donate directly to the PAC, for those who do not wish to purchase goods or have limited time to participate in events.

A direct donation of $40 would be the equivalent to your child raising $275 through fundraising activities (Purdy’s, Neufelds, etc.).   Funds raised go towards supporting teachers in their classrooms, busses for field trips, programs such as Dance Pl3y, Saleema Noon and more!

If you wish to make a direct donation, please send an e-transfer to bulpittpac@outlook.com with direct donation in the Message line.  Please note, at this time we are unable to provide tax receipts.

Thank you to those who have contributed!

Next General Meeting

Don’t forget – our next meeting will be Monday, May 9 at 7pm via Zoom. – all parents are welcome to attend!  Our AGM and PAC Elections will be held on Monday, June 6 at 7pm in the Library.  If you are interested in becoming a member of our PAC, please email to bulpittpac@outlook.com.

Quote(s) of the week

Something to read (or watch)

  • Anyone here procrastinate? How about your kids? Mine certainly do. Procrastination for kids in younger grades isn’t likely about homework, but maybe chores, but homework will probably appear on the ‘to do’ list later on in school. This article looks at the emotional roots of procrastination and how we can help kids (or ourselves) do less of it. Of course, for the article to help, I guess you need to read it now, not later. For my part, point 3 rears its head when I work on this document each week. The proverbial rabbit hole of distraction and delay is endless when I’m working online.
  • Here’s a TED article on raising kids who become secure, trustworthy adults. Sometimes I think I do better at that part at school than I did at home. While there’s lots about teenagers, the speaker takes us back to the very early years with her argument.
