Information

Remembrance Day and Design & Assessment Day

Don’t forget that families have a 4-day weekend this week. Students do not attend on Thursday and Friday, November 11 and 12.

Fall back!

Don’t forget to change all those clocks that don’t change themselves this morning. Except your car (if it’s old). Just leave that one until March and it will be correct again.

Remembrance Day Poppies

It is a long-standing tradition for schools to support our veterans and the efforts of the Royal Canadian Legion. Due to our COVID-19 health and safety guidelines, the distribution and collection of funds for poppies will be different again this year. Please note that our school will be receiving a poppy for every student. We will be distributing them to classes in a safe manner. We will continue to collect funds this year in support of the Legion’s Poppy Campaign but kindly ask students and their families to donate online via School Cash Online.

Please do not send any cash or cheques with your child to school. We appreciate your generosity. As always, our school is committed to educating our community about the meaning of the poppy and Remembrance Day.

I Am An Ally T-shirts

An ally is someone who stands up for, supports and encourages the people around them. Being an ally means supporting equal rights for everyone – regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender or religion; doing what you can to call out discrimination and to fight for equality; and trying to make the world a better place for anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+.

Last year, the district held a design contest for a special t-shirt to recognize allyship, and the winning design came from Rebecca, a student and R.E. Mountain Secondary. Now these shirts are available for ordering for students, families and staff. There is an item in School Cash Online that allows you to order as many as you might want. Delivery is expected for before the winter break.

Month to Remember

Information About School Status During Inclement Weather

Snow closures and power outages are an annual occurrence in Langley School District. So, where do you go to get information about the status of schools during periods of inclement weather? If you are able to access the internet via computer or smartphone, current information about Langley schools can be accessed on all school websites or www.sd35.bc.ca. Updates are also posted to Twitter @LangleySchools and Facebook at www.facebook.com/langleyschooldistrict. If you don’t have internet connectivity but your phone is working, call a relative or friend in an area that has not been affected by the storm and ask them to check the district website for you. Local radio stations are also informed of school status in Langley. Tune in to CKWX 1130AM, CKNW 980AM, Country Radio 107.1FM, Pulse 107.7 or CBC 690AM or 88.1FM for updates.

Please note that Langley District schools are all considered ‘open’ until a decision to close is required. Decisions on school closures are usually made by 6:30am. As always, it is a parent’s decision whether to send their child to school based on safety and individual circumstances. If you feel it is unsafe for you or your child to travel to or attend an open school for any reason, please keep your child home and report an absence to the school.

Alternative Fundraiser

Due to the unprecedented nature of COVID-19 we have been limited in the ability to hold regular events to fundraise for our staff and students. This year the PAC would like to offer parents a new way to donate directly to the PAC, for those who do not wish to purchase goods or have limited time to participate in events.

A direct donation of $40 would be the equivalent to your child raising $275 through fundraising activities (Purdy’s, Neufelds, etc.).   Funds raised go towards supporting teachers in their classrooms, busses for field trips, programs such as Dance Pl3y, Saleema Noon and more!

If you wish to make a direct donation, please send an e-transfer to bulpittpac@outlook.com with direct donation in the Message line.  Please note, at this time we are unable to provide tax receipts.

Next General Meeting

Don’t forget – our next meeting is this Monday, November 8 at 7pm in the school library.

Something to read (or watch)

  • Parent: How was school today?

Kid: ‘Good’ (or worse, ‘I dunno.’)

Parent: What did you do at school?

Kid: ‘Nothin’.’

Here are some alternate questions that might help elaborate on your conversations after school if you get non-specific answers.

And special props to one unnamed mom whose conversations about school I get to overhear on the crosswalk are next-level!

  • The School District sent this resource out widely last week, but maybe you missed it. Healthy living, in all its aspects, is important all the time, and particularly so in challenging times such as these. This resource from Kelty Mental Health talks about setting healthy living goals.
