Information
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Ms. and Mr. Sidhu who welcomed their baby, Kaisan, last week. We are so excited for them, and can’t wait to meet the newest Bulldog in person.
Estimystery
How big is the Great Pumpkin? Well, so far we’ve established that it is much bigger than the 1kg reference pumpkin (which is much smaller than Mr. Oliver’s head) in the display case. And also that it is less than 100 kg. Three more clues this week should help students narrow their estimates to only a couple of possibilities. And really, any reasonable estimate is a good one. In this photo, the Great Pumpkin is a bit back of Mr. Oliver, so it actually looks smaller than it really is. Don’t forget, Bulldogs, to put your estimates in by the end of this Thursday; you’ll get 3 new hints this week.
Food Programs – Donation & Need
Did you know that the Langley School District Foundation has the singular purpose of supporting Langley students? It helps us provide food to families in need of a bit of support. You can join in the work by donating here. And if you are in need of support, a quick message to Ms. Arora, (Child & Youth Care Worker), Ms. Davies, Ms. Espin or Mr. Oliver will start things rolling. Things are tough and expensive these days, but help is available.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Not sure what questions to ask your child’s teacher at your parent-teacher conference? The District is sharing this resource to help families plan for their meeting. Families can review this 3-page resource for some ideas, questions, and things to consider. Teachers, staff and families work together to ensure student success in our schools. Read here.
Parent/Teacher interviews are on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 25 and 26. On BOTH days students are dismissed at 1:33pm

Halloween Costumes
The Halloween excitement is building! When I told some kids I didn’t know what my costume would be, their reaction was one of pure horror. And they followed that up with a wicked range of potential ideas. I know I’m in good hands there. The conversation reminded me, though to remind all of you that extra-horrifying masks, super-fragile costumes, and replica weapons of all types should not be coming to school on Halloween.
Langley RCMP: Candy with a Cop
Our community partner, the Langley RCMP, is inviting our students, staff, and families to have “Candy with a Cop.” On Tuesday, October 31st, police will be sharing treats with visitors throughout the day at their community police offices across Langley. For locations and times, please see flyer here.
Great Shakeout!
We did it! Our first Earthquake Drill of the year is done! The kids and staff did an outstanding job of it, too. You can see a bit of a summary below or read about these drills here.
Congratulations, Cross Country Runners!
Congratulations to SJ and Jacob, both from grade 5, who represented our school at the Championship meet this Tuesday! SJ finished 2nd, and Jacob 17th in their category, against the fastest XC runners in Langley. Well done, Bulldogs!
Emergency Procedures & Response
Health and safety are a priority in the Langley School District. Schools follow emergency procedures to ensure students, staff, and any visitors in our schools or sites are safe when unexpected incidents or events happen. At the start of every school year, administrators, teachers, and staff review these emergency procedures. Schools practice a set number of drills annually in preparation for unexpected situations. The District encourages families to become familiar with these staff emergency procedures and the drills that are completed in our schools. You can read them in the Staff Emergency Procedures Poster here or find them posted in areas throughout our buildings. If you have any questions or concerns about emergency procedures, please get in contact with your child’s teacher or administrator.
Foundation Skills Assessment (for parents of Grade 4)
We will be starting administration of the Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) shortly in our grade 4 classes. Information can be found here.
Kids Helping Kids Clothing Drive
Did you know that the Township of Langley Firefighters conduct a clothing drive every year? And did you know that the proceeds fund snack programs in Langley schools (including ours) so we can ‘top up’ kids who are hungry? This year’s clothing drive is this Friday. If you have donations, please bring them to the front foyer
Remembrance Day Poppies
It is a long-standing tradition for schools to support our veterans and the efforts of the Royal Canadian Legion. Once again, this year, our school will be receiving a poppy for every student and distributing them to classes for our Remembrance Day assembly.
We appreciate your generosity. As always, our school is committed to educating our community about the meaning of the poppy and Remembrance Day. Thank you for your continued support of the Legion’s Poppy Campaign!
Families can donate online here or drop off donations in the office.
Information About School Status During Inclement Weather
Snow closures and power outages are an annual occurrence in Langley School District. So, where do you go to get information about the status of schools during periods of inclement weather? If you are able to access the internet via computer or smartphone, current information about Langley schools can be accessed on all school websites or www.sd35.bc.ca. Updates are also posted to X (formerly Twitter) @LangleySchools and Facebook at www.facebook.com/langleyschooldistrict. If you don’t have internet connectivity but your phone is working, call a relative or friend in an area that has not been affected by the storm and ask them to check the district website for you. Local radio stations are also informed of school status in Langley. Tune in to CKWX 1130AM, CKNW 980AM, Country Radio 107.1FM, Pulse 107.7 or CBC 690AM or 88.1FM for updates.
Please note that Langley District schools are all considered ‘open’ until a decision to close is required. Decisions on school closures are usually made by 6:30am. As always, it is a parent’s decision whether to send their child to school based on safety and individual circumstances. If you feel it is unsafe for you or your child to travel to or attend an open school for any reason, please keep your child home and report an absence to the school.
Something to read or watch…
What is Intellectual Disability
I was thinking and reading about intellectual disabilities the other day as I pondered recommending participation in Special Olympics to someone I know. And I realized that, even though I have a child with Down Syndrome at home, and coach Special Olympics Swimming myself, I don’t know what ‘qualifies’ a person to participate in Special O. That took me to this article: About Intellectual Disabilities. It didn’t really answer the questions I had for myself, but it was a worthwhile read.
