Cops for Cancer

It was sure an exciting Friday last week! As we waited at the front of the school for the Cops for Cancer to arrive, the RCMP helicopter, Air1 did a super-cool flypast, complete with sirens, for us. Then the motorcycles, and the bicycles, and the cars, and trucks and an ambulance all came down the drive. Our kids and staff were stoked to be the first school visit on the 2023 Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley! Those riders will go 100 km a day for 8 days. My legs hurt just thinking about that! And they’re doing it to help raise funds to fight childhood cancers.

Thank you to the PAC, and to all patrons of the Dunk Tank at last year’s Spring Fling. That was the event that raised enough funds to qualify our school as a stop on the Tour.

Don’t forget the fundraising raffle, complete with amazing prizes, linked to the image below.

Big thanks to Mrs. Sykes for sharing her video from the event.

Terry Fox Run

Cops for Cancer is not, of course, the only Cancer fundraiser that happens in the fall. We hope to see some of you at one of the local Terry Fox Runs today, and we really hope to see you at our school Terry Fox Run on Friday. Please make note of the Toonies for Terry fundraiser running this week, or consider making a donation straight to the Terry Fox Foundation by clicking the poster below.

Please be a good neighbour

Every so often, and a couple of times in the last two weeks, we get calls from neighbours in the nearby townhome complexes letting us know how many (it’s a lot) Richard Bulpitt families are parking cars in their complexes or blocking driveways in order to walk to the school. I know I said ‘please park and walk a block,’ but that isn’t really what I had in mind. Please remember that these actions reflect on the school, and that those complexes would be within their rights to tow illegally parked (even for. a short time) cars, and that Bylaw Officers could be around writing tickets for illegally parked cars on the streets.

Verification forms will be coming home soon.

We require a signed verification form at the start of each school year for every student.  Please carefully read through the information we have and update any changes.

Consent Forms

You will soon be receiving from Langley Schools an email including a link (specific to your family, do not share this link with others), to fill out the following permission/release forms:

      • Media Release
      • Release of information to PAC
      • Walking Field Trip
      • Technology

Please note that without these permission forms, children cannot participate in Walking Field Trips with their classes. With no media release children have to be organized in a way that avoids any possibility of being photographed.

After school learning opportunity

Hmmmm.

Quote(s) of the week

I was talking to Gabriel in grade 1 the other day, and he shared a profound observation with me, and he gave me permission to share them with you. When a fellow student was having a difficult time, Gabriel said this to his teacher:

Pretty wise for a 6-year-old, eh?
