Information
Monday is Black Excellence Day
Monday is Black Excellence Day in Canada. It is a day to recognize, celebrate, and learn more about Black culture, history, stories and people leading up to Black History Month in February. For a wide-ranging list of excellent Black Canadians, you can look here: 23 Historical Black Canadians you should know.
Student-Inclusive Conferences
Communication of Student Learning is changing at RBE. Instead of formal written report cards in term 2, we will be holding our first-ever Student Inclusive Conferences between February 27 and March 8. While we will be sharing more information over the coming weeks, an introduction can be found here. Appointment Booking is not yet available, but we will let you know when it is.
This is important, so we also have translations available.

Quote(s) of the week

Something to read…
- Mr. Oliver doesn’t mind the current cold weather. He actually sort of likes it. Maybe that’s because he lived in Saskatchewan for a few years as a teen and spends lots of time in colder parts of the province now, having fun adventures. But maybe it’s because a bit of a cold shock can do good things for your mind and body. These people, though, these cold water swimmers, take the concept to a whole new level. A little cold air doesn’t stop Metro Vancouver’s cold water fans. Mr. Oliver also found it really interesting that the water on Friday in the always-chilly Buntzen Lake, was 18 degrees warmer than the air.
- It’s expected to warm up again this week, but winter isn’t done with us yet. I found this chart showing wind chill values, which doesn’t warm us up any, but does show just how much temperature and wind interact. There is a detailed explanation of wind chill on the Environment Canada website.
